Forklift Operational Safety

Introduction

The Forklift Operational Safety Course is designed to train operators, supervisors, and safety personnel in the safe operation of forklifts and other powered industrial trucks, in compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.178. This program covers forklift operation, hazard identification, and maintenance protocols to prevent accidents and injuries. Through theoretical instruction, hands-on training, and practical evaluations, participants will gain the expertise needed to operate forklifts safely, ensure workplace compliance, and reduce risks associated with powered industrial trucks.

Course Objectives

• Understand OSHA’s forklift safety standards and operator responsibilities.
• Identify workplace hazards associated with forklift operations, such as tip-overs and collisions.
• Learn safe forklift operating techniques, including load handling and maneuvering.
• Develop skills to conduct pre-operation inspections and maintenance checks on forklifts.
• Explore the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) during forklift operations.
• Gain knowledge of safe refueling and battery charging procedures for forklifts.
• Understand the importance of clear communication and signage in forklift work areas.
• Learn to document and report forklift-related incidents and near-misses.

Assessment

A 30-minute multiple-choice question (MCQ) exam and a practical forklift operation evaluation.

Certification

Forklift Operational Safety Certificate issued by ACSGP upon successful completion.
