Powered Industrial Trucks

Introduction

The Powered Industrial Trucks Course is designed to train operators, supervisors, and safety professionals in the safe operation, inspection, and maintenance of powered industrial trucks (PITs), such as forklifts and pallet jacks, in compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.178. This program covers hazard recognition, safe operating practices, and stability principles. Through theoretical instruction, hands-on training, and practical evaluations, participants will develop the skills to operate PITs safely, prevent workplace injuries, and ensure regulatory compliance.

Course Objectives

• Understand OSHA standards for powered industrial trucks and operator responsibilities.
• Identify hazards associated with PIT operations, including tip-overs and pedestrian interactions.
• Learn safe operating techniques, such as load capacity limits and maneuvering in tight spaces.
• Develop skills to perform pre-operation inspections and basic maintenance on PITs.
• Explore the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and visibility aids for PIT safety.
• Gain knowledge of refueling, charging, and battery maintenance procedures.
• Understand the importance of workplace layout and traffic management for PIT operations.

Assessment

A 30-minute multiple-choice question (MCQ) exam and a practical PIT operation and inspection evaluation.

Certification

Powered Industrial Trucks Certificate issued by ACSGP upon successful completion.
